There are several reasons to stay fit but a big reason is that you are giving your children an excellent example. More than anyone else in their lives they will learn from you. They are not just listening to what you have to say but are watching you. How you eat, how you spend your time and how you take care of your body is all being watched. We live in a day and age where there are more and more ways to entertain yourself without moving. Movement is very important, especially for your children. They will develop muscle strength, coordination and you will be setting them up for success. In a fast paced culture it is so easy to eat fast food and get distracted by electronics. We must think of the long term goals.

Your children will have self confidence. We all feel good when we are eating right and working our bodies. You want your child to have the best outlook on life that is possible.

Your children will be able to enjoy participating in all the fun activities that are provided for then without feeling slow or obstructed. Your child is a gift and you want to give them the best chance in life possible. Not everything is measured by physical fitness but you don’t know what talents could be inside of your child. You would not want weight our lack of strength to hinder them from something they have the inner talent and desire to do.

It can be easy as a mother of young children to want to get things done and sometimes the easiest thing to do is just put on a movie or turn on a television program. If a child is over the age of 2 then there can be 1-2 hours of quality programming a day. Otherwise they should be doing something active. Take advantage of that little bit of time that they may want to sit but otherwise get out and play. Have fun together in a way that will keep you both healthy.

Keep the activities you do with your child fun and they will want to do them as often as they can. It will even benefit you and your body as you are building fun memories with your children. This is also where a home workout can be a great benefit to you because as you are working out your children can be aware of what is going on. They may even try to join in and give you a laugh. Kids do not need to necessarily do push-ups, sit-ups etc. , they do great with playing tag, crossing the bars and jumping on a trampoline. When possible include your children in what you are deciding to make for dinner, pointing out the health benefits of the meals you have chosen.

Weight can become someones life issue and you have the opportunity to give your child a head start on not dealing with it as an adult. By exercising your child will be less likely to be overweight. What a gift you are giving them. They also will be less likely to have high blood pressure and cholesterol levels when they get older which will help them to be more active parents. They will be spending less time, energy and money going to the doctor. All of this just from you being a good example and limiting the time that they stay still. Have fun!
